Step Into Spring

A change in season can have an important impact on outdoor activity level. For example, spring has arrived here in New York City, and it’s a great opportunity for me to get outside for a walk. I noticed that flowers are starting to bloom in the parks, providing inspiration for a new start in the new season.

Walking is my favorite form of exercise and something we recommend in Chapter 7, “The Joy of Moment” in The Fat Resistance Diet.

Regular exercise such as walking can have both immediate and long-lasting benefits.

Studies indicate that:

1. 30 minutes of exercise per day can effectively boost one’s mood
2. exercise can burn calories, facilitate weight-loss and keep it off
3. exercise can strengthen immunity
4. exercise can reduce stress

The good news is that moderate exercise can produce the benefits listed above. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends an hour per day of moderate physical activity. It does not have to be one hour at the gym. As we say in our book, think in ten minute segments. A ten minute walk. Ten more minutes playing with your cat or dog. Ten minutes each time and it all adds up to your benefit!
