Start your own trend and take better care of yourself for the summer holiday.

Here are some ideas for enjoying a healthier holiday, things you can make at home or bring to a friend:

Guacamole or Tomato Salsa with Baked Tortilla chips

Hummus and Whole Wheat Pita Bread

Tossed Garden Salad

If you grill, Onions, Mushrooms, Sliced Bell Pepper and Eggplant are excellent vegetarian choices.

Grilled Fish or Shrimp

For drinks, try juices, iced tea, spritzers, or smoothies.

Fresh cut fruit is a delicious desert—watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple. Or try a big bowl of fresh whole fruit—peaches, nectarines, apples, banana or cherries.

I like your idea! My 4th of July was pretty healthy too--we have been staying away from junk food for over a year now, and it makes us feel great, and in a way, free!
